Regeneration of Prescot and Huyton town centres, a new transport services contract and a scheme to help private renters at risk of losing their homes were among the items before Knowsley Council’s cabinet on 18 March, according to the authority’s published agenda and minutes.

The Labour-run cabinet, chaired by the council leader, Cllr Graham J Morgan, agreed to accept £600,000 for Huyton town centre — part of a £2m Regeneration Capacity Building Fund provided to the council by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Cabinet also considered a report on investment in Prescot town centre, a Transport Services Contract, and the Affordable Housing Access Fund, which covers a Private Rent Rescue Scheme and strategic property acquisitions.

Other items included the Crisis and Resilience Fund for 2026/27, the council’s highways capital and maintenance programme for 2027/28, and the Pride in Place programme for Page Moss and Fincham.

The meeting also received the council’s performance and strategic risk monitoring report for the third quarter of 2025/26, and the cabinet’s responses to a series of scrutiny committee reviews — among them the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, the borough’s Local Plan, and its parks and green spaces.

Cabinet is the council’s executive: the body where decisions on spending, services and policy are taken between full council meetings. Its members are senior councillors who each hold a portfolio. Regeneration and economic development — the area covering the Prescot and Huyton items — sits with Cllr Tony Brennan, who can be contacted at tony.brennan@knowsley.gov.uk. Finance rests with Cllr Jayne E Lonergan, the cabinet member for resources (jayne.lonergan@knowsley.gov.uk), advised by the council’s section 151 officer, Stephan Van Arendsen. The chief executive is James Duncan.

Residents can also reach the council leader, Cllr Graham Morgan, at graham.morgan@knowsley.gov.uk.

Cabinet meets in public. The full reports, decisions and minutes for the 18 March meeting are published at councillors.knowsley.gov.uk, where the dates of upcoming meetings are also listed.
